What is new and renewable energy?
New and renewable energy refers to energy that is used by converting existing fossil fuels or by converting them into renewable energy, including sunlight, water, precipitation, and biofluid. Renewable energies include solar power, sun power, bio fuel energy, wind power, and water power, and new energies include fuel cells and hydrogen energy. Although there are disadvantages that the initial investment cost is high, interest in new and renewable energy is increasing because of the exhaustion of fossil energy and the importance of environmental problems.
Solar power
It uses solar power generation system to collect light energy and turn it into electricity. It does not make pollution problem, it does not require fuel and it is noiseless. It is easy to install and can be used for a long time.
Inverter for solar power generation
It is the power conversion device that supplies the direct current produced by the solar panel as a system or stores it in the battery. It is the core of the solar power plant because it monitors and controls the solar power plant. It performs maximum power point tracking (MPPT) to produce solar energy as efficiently as possible even with temperature and irradiation, and protects solar power generation facilities by stopping operation when there is a problem with the system through the single operation prevention function.

Wind energy
It is the energy used to convert the kinetic energy of a natural wind into rotational energy and finally produce electricity. Since wind is caused by uneven heating of the ground, irregularity of the earth's surface, rotation of the earth's magnetic field, etc., wind power is a form of solar energy and can produce electricity using the power generation system. In other words, wind energy can be used indefinitely and is clean energy that does not emit pollutants. The amount of energy obtained from the wind is determined by the diameter of the blades and the speed of the wind. The larger the diameter of the blades and the higher the wind speed, the greater the amount of electricity produced possible.

In wind power generation, there is a problem that power supply is unstable because the amount of wind blowing is not constant every time. The role of the PCS for wind power generation is to convert the unstable power input from the wind power generator into stable and constant power. It also controls the speed of the rotating blades so that they can operate at the optimal efficiency, which is not too fast or slow depending on the wind speed.
Fuel Cell
Fuel cells are a new energy source that produces electricity and heat energy through the chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen in the air. It is a clean energy source that does not emit harmful substances. The city gas is converted into hydrogen through a reformer and supplied to the stack together with oxygen in the air to produce electricity and thermal energy.

It is a unidirectional power conversion device that boosts low voltage (20 ~ 100V) DC produced by fuel cell according to the required voltage or converts it to AC. If the efficiency of the PCS is low, the economical efficiency of the fuel cell itself is deteriorated. Therefore, the PCS technology plays a very important role in the system. In Korea, researches on stacks and reformers are mainly carried out. However, in advanced countries such as the United States, it is important to study the low cost and high efficiency of power conversion devices, which are key technologies, in order to promote commercialization of fuel cell systems.
